Girls school Lukuledi
In the south of Tanzania, where there are hardly any tourists and therefore few donations, we work with Bishop Filbert Mhasi, a 100% faithful friend who has led the diocese of Tunduru-Masasi in the poor south of the country since 2019. With countless newly launched activities, he is trying to provide new impulse in the areas of health, education and infrastructure. Among other things, he is committed to improve the rights and social status of women in this underdeveloped region. As there are hardly any good educational opportunities available to women, we launched the project to build a boarding school for girls in Lukuledi in 2019. The area next to the church with its large, shady trees is ideal for a school. In collaboration with the students of the Lucerne School of Structural Engineering, we were able to plan the building with the sanitary facilities. Most of the construction work was completed by 2024 and the school opened in 2023.
To the the documentation of the renovated and new buildings.
The project includes the renovation of seven existing buildings and the construction of new sanitary facilities with toilets and showers, a kitchen and a laboratory for biology and chemistry lessons.
In the first phase, the dormitories, classrooms, staff room, administration, library and dining hall were renovated. This was followed by the construction of new sanitary facilities based on the plans drawn up by the students in May 2020 and the construction of a kitchen with three large cooking areas. As the water supply was insufficient, a well also had to be drilled.
The second phase began with the construction of the laboratory and the renovation of a teacher’s house. The interior design of the laboratory was very complex, as it had to follow the state’s guidelines exactly. Fire extinguishers, furniture for the library and school materials for the first class were purchased.
In spring 2023, the school received approval and was able to start operations. It is open to all religions.
The costs for the renovations, the new buildings and the infrastructure and equipment amounted to around USD 250,000.
Of this, masanka.ch paid CHF 170,000. The rest was covered by other donors and the diocese.
We are very proud of this wonderful project and wish the students success. We will continue to support the school in the future. School desks, teaching materials and double decker beds are still missing for the ongoing expansion of the school.
Thank you very much for your donation to complete this great project.
Financial transactions are carried out in stages according to documented interim status. This gives us complete control over expenditure. As we work on a voluntary basis and pay our own expenses, there are no additional costs. Every dollar is invested in Lukuledi.
